Just a week after a problem with Amazon’s cloud network saw companies including Netflix and Reddit offline, Microsoft’s flagship cloud service, Office 365, has suffered an outage.
The Microsoft Cloud Twitter account reported the outage at around 7am (NZT), tweeting, ‘We apologise for the inconvenience that the #office 365 outage has caused today. We’re are [sic] working on resolving the issue’.
The outages are frustrating for technology companies trying to convince IT professionals that cloud services are reliable.
Update: Microsoft says it has begun restoring Office 365 service and is verifying this.
A statement issued by Microsoft representative Steven Gerri reads, "At approximately 11:30am PDT, Microsoft became aware of a networking issue affecting customers of some Microsoft services hosted out of one of our North American data centres. We worked to isolate the issue and we are beginning to see service restoration. We continue to investigate the root cause of this issue."
